Ötzi – the Iceman
… let’s turn the wheel of time back, by say 5,000 years. A man goes about his business who will later become famous, namely Ötzi, the Iceman! The focus of attention worldwide after the sensational find on the Similiaun Glacier, Ötzi can now be viewed in the Archaeological Museum in Bolzano. His life, his clothes, his weapons and many other archaeological treasures from the Ice Age (15,000 BC) to Charlemagne (800 AD).
Along the way themes from the oldest human tracks in the area of the Alps up to the Iceman are described and his way of life and the way he made his living. True-to-scale models of houses according to archaeological finds convey an impression of the life of our forefathers. Special events, courses and guided tours for adults, children and youngsters allow us to UNDERSTAND and EXPERIENCE AT FIRST HAND the living habits in pre-history.

Archeoparc Schnals home territory of the Iceman
The Schnals Archeology Park is located at 1,500 m above sea level at Our Lady in Schnals. The Tisental together with the mountain ridge, behind which the Iceman was found at 3,210 m, is visible from the museum building and from the open area. This Archeology Park presents the past in a fascinating way. South Tyrol’s first archaeological museum already stands out due to its unusual construction. Ötzi Express “Life” Glacier
New insights into and views of ice. Glacial faults and moraines as well as the unique glacial cave are visited. The 50 m-deep ice cave has been formed due to movements of the glacier caused by melting water and has been left completely untouched. The light games of the ice in its interior conveys a fascinating insight into the formation and development of the Schnalser Glacier. End of June to beginning of September.Trips daily at 11.30 am.
